Spending time with friends is different than spending time and sharing some betting offers with friends online. Real bonding always happens in person, even though the internet has helped facilitate some amazing friendships and has brought us very interesting stories through its relatively brief existence.
However, there are ways of spending time with friends and also playing games, but not video games. There are things called board games and most people of the pre-internet era have played them, at least those who were into gaming and fantasy. There are more than fantasy board games, so without further ado, here are the greatest board games of all time.
Catan
This is a standard board game, one that people often turn to when they want to have some fun and compete with friends. Catan was released in 1995, created by Klaus Teuber. It is also known as Settlers of Catan, where stranded people have to settle an island to survive. However, other people are there, too, and working with and against them is a part of the challenge. There are many ways to win so it will be an interesting game, every single time.
7 Wonders
We have heard of the 7 wonders of the old world, but have you ever played the eponymous board game? There are three phases in the game, where we progress through the ages, and each of the wonders gives some sort of power, whether combat or trading, or using already used cards. It is a game with a very high skill ceiling, which is why many players love it.
Blood Rage
If one has played Risk, then Blood Rage should be familiar. Blood Rage places us in the Scandinavian apocalypse event, Ragnarok, and we need to use the vikings to survive, fight and conquer. However, dice are not the main tool for winning and playing, but rather cards. It is a card plus board game, a very interesting combination. It also has beautifully crafted figurines.
Gloomhaven
This game is a changer when it comes to making gameplay interesting. It is similar to Dungeons and Dragons, but it doesn’t use dice, rather cards, like Blood Rage. That being said, D&D requires a good dungeon master, while Gloomhaven does not, because the dungeons and universe are created for you. There are various monsters which can be added to the board, as well as figures and cards, which can change the way that the game is played.
There are so many good board games, from Risk, Monopoly, to Dungeons & Dragons, but also the ones mentioned above. Everybody has their favorites and at the moment, these are ours. Try some of them, try all of them, it is a good reason to socialize, which is what we need in these trying times.
